I understand the multiple exclamation point thing, it conveys augmented enthusiasm for the topic at hand!!!
But question marks??
Can I add multiple periods to convey a certain message?
Oh right, those are ellipses...
What about multiple commas in the middle of a sentence,,,,you know? Like I want to separate the clauses real bad.
Is it: the more question marks, the more the question is being asked?????
Because I am really curious!!!

Genius
ReplyDeleteActually, ellipses have the opposite effect of a period, y'know. Because, like, a period is FINAL, THE END, this is the LAST word. But an ellipse says, this is the sentence now, but there may be more . . .
ReplyDeleteRight on about the question marks thing, I don't get it.
btw, I got to your blog via fashionablepundit there, due to work boredom. Just so you know.
Or do you care????
What I was going for was that the function for multiple periods was already taken. Maybe if it weren't, we would add several periods to be more EMPHATIC about something or other.
ReplyDeleteSorry if reading about grammar made you more bored.
